Old Havana | Cuban Wedding Inspiration
We’re always looking for the next big country or culture to hit the wedding trends, so last year when the US got friendly with Cuba again - the lightbulbs went on. It’s the next big holiday destination and we think it has a lot to offer when it comes to design.
We wanted this shoot to capture the essence of Old Havana - music, dancing, cigars and mojitos against a backdrop of charming colonial architecture. Vibrant and flirty!
We used vintage, muted colours to reflect the 1950s time capsule that is Cuba, as well as tropical brights to enhance the fun, flirty vibe. On the tabletop we had a beautiful combination of the two - lush greens with faded peach florals and vibrant coral candles to create a dynamic, busy look.
A big part of the Cuban look was in the vintage details - old cigar boxes, vintage wooden trays and rustic candleholders. We put together a Cocktails, Chocolates and Cigar bar for a late-night reception treat. We used little tropical bird details on the coral napkins, and on the dining table we put together vintage-looking goblets and vases with muted teal plates and wooden cutlery. We didn’t want it to look polished, but rather like a curated collection, as if we had just found a lot of what we used. Like an impromptu Cuban wedding!
The bridal looks absolutely blew us away. The Priya skirt from Watters was a dream for what we were going for, with its’ layers of flirty organza and a silk cami top to complement it - perfect for salsa dancing!
We wanted to experiment with floral jewellery, so as well as working flowers into the stunning hair pieces, we also asked the team at Mary Jane Vaughan to try something new and design a floral necklace.
