Fictional Follies | Jane Villanueva and Rafael Solano

Anyone as obsessed with Jane the Virgin as we are over here? We came to the party super late, but thank God for Netflix - friend of the binge-watcher. So when we were thinking about our next Fictional Follies, there was no other option.

Jane and rafael wedding

We're fictionally joining these gorgeous co-parents in matrimony, because finally. Sorry Michael fans, but it's time to move on (no spoilers here, but dang).

So what does a Villaneuva/Solano wedding look like?

Well, we know what both of their first weddings looked like. For Jane and Michael, a traditional Catholic ceremony with a homely reception. For Raf and Petra, we saw glimpses of an over the top luxe day with all the trimmings.

So we're expecting somewhere in between for these guys - they know each other well enough now to do away with anything that isn't important to them. Shrug off the pretences and do something that is totally and utterly them.

For Jane's bridal look, we're hoping for something a little sexier and more relaxed than her first time around. We're thinking something to show off her toned upper bod of late, with something like these Gali Karten or Berta gowns.

When it comes to bridal hair and beauty, we're liking the idea of a playful floral crown with bright pops of colours - also harking back to her Mexican and Venezuelan heratige. Cropped, loose waves for a relaxed look, but with a sexy smoky eye and maybe a bold lip.

For setting, we're thinking a beach ceremony and alfresco intimate dinner, with colours influenced by the super stylish Marbella Hotel - vibrant peach and pale turquoise is perfect.

Food and drink inspired by their multicultural backgrounds - including Raf's mysterious Italian heritage, plenty of wine, sharing platters and, of course, grilled cheese for the evening snack (1/3 white cheddar, 1/3 yellow cheddar, 1/3 grated American cheese) - the meal Jane served Rafael when they first met.

Fictional Follies | Wonder Woman + Steve Trevor

We've been wanting to do this particular fictional folly since we saw Wonder Women in summer and we came out of the cinema feeling all empowered that we could take over the world. Great film, great message, amazing role model and the objectification of Chris Pine, what more could you want!

Diana Prince and Steve Trevor this is your wedding...

Of course the obvious setting is the island of Themyscira, where Diana grew up and where she first met Steve Trevor. This relaxed beach wedding will have a neutral and cool colour palette with copper, gold and teal taking centre stage to reflect the colours of the Themyscira army and the water surrounding the island.

Diana will be armour less for once and opt for a sheer gown with an intricate bodice, handmaid by the women of Themyscira. Steve will be casual in the lightest of blue suits.

A copper arch decorated with the natural greenery from the island marks the spot where the couple say their vows.

The beachside dinner tables use copper and teal crockery and glassware. Centrepieces are handpicked wild flowers and greenery, and as the sun goes down, the tables are lit by candles in copper lanterns. Diana and Steve sit at their own mermaid sequinned sweetheart table enjoying a private moment.

Before the evening ends the couple cut a perfectly designed cake and disappear into the romantic night, safe in the knowledge that for now, the world doesn't need saving.

Fictional Follies | Kat Stratford + Patrick Verona

Just when we thought we had run out of a truly original fictional couple worthy of this series, we remember one of the most iconic films of the noughties for our generation and modern Shakespeare retelling - 10 Things I Hate About You.

More specifically, the teenage anti-romance of Kat Stratford and Patrick Verona.

And what if these crazy kids decided to get married? Well we know it wouldn't be right away. They would probably live together for 10 years and deem marriage 'too conventional', before ultimately deciding to do it anyway. Because deep down they are more traditional than they would like to think. But also, party.

So what would a Stratford-Verona wedding look like? For one, we know it wouldn't look like everyone else's. Which makes moodboarding based on other people's photos a bit moot, but let's try anyway.

giphy-downsized.gif

Let's start with the dress. We think Kat would go for something a little edgier, something people wouldn't necessarily expect (unless they knew her well). We're thinking detailed separates if she's going mildly unconventional, or a bold colour of she's really feeling it. Black details are in anyway for 2018, but don't tell her. Either way, she'll want to be comfortable but also make a statement.

She won't be the kind of bride who wants a fancy hairdo either, opting to probably neaten up her long blonde waves with a few casual plaits. And when it comes to accessories, we can imagine one of these badass leather jackets (probably artificial, because she cares) would make a great wedding gift from Patrick.

Kat and Patrick aren't going to be going for anything they would deem a classic 'wedding venue'. We're seeing them in their favourite restaurant, an urban warehouse space with moody lighting and minimal decor.

Food will be nothing fancy either, but crowd-pleasing nonetheless. Pizza, donuts and booze courtesy of the newlyweds!

17ea704fbd34e0c3956b40979923c3e6.jpg

And for the other little details, we're seeing a nod to the literary influences in their lives with some of these written quotes dotted around the space - even if it borders on the romantic. Is it too much to ask that the title of their vows is 10 Things I Love About You? Yes, possibly.

And you just KNOW that their first dance will be a surprise performance from Patrick himself - three guesses for the song choice...

Fictional Follies | Jay Gatsby + Daisy Buchanan

F. Scott Gerald is getting the Fictional Follies treatment this week, well really it's the Baz Luhrmann version of The Great Gatsby with the always amazing Leo and Cary Mulligan. But we would like to point out we loved this book way before the film came out, one of us even studied it at uni. Now we know it doesn't work out for these two but as with any of our fictional follies, when has that ever stopped us before.

We're purposely avoiding art deco and instead creating a wedding of modern opulence. We're keeping things light and pretty with shades of mint, peach and white with a gold accent. Everything is of the highest standard with little details across the entire day, now all you have to do is imagine you're there!

Daisy's dressed in a Jenny Packham dress, who does beading so beautifully. Stunning accessories with touches of mint and a simple bouquet of white roses finish the look.

A touch of glamour is added to the escort cards with a smattering of glitter and the table is beautifully set with gold, white and mint crockery, gold cutlery and cut glass crystal glasses. But it's the extravagant dessert table and luxurious cake that your eye is drawn to.

The couple disappear for photographs overlooking the lake towards the green light, surrounded by feathers and flowers.

When they get back Gatsby lifts his glass in a toast and the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy!

Fictional Follies | Claire and Jamie

We're headed to the Highlands for this next instalment of Fictional Follies, and yes - there are kilts.

If you're a fan of Outlander like we are then you are on the edge of your seat waiting for the next season. You wish you had time-travel so you could get there faster. So meanwhile, we thought we'd take a little look at what a modern day Claire and Jamie Fraser wedding would look like.

outlander wedding

Yes so we already saw a wedding in 18th century Scotland, but let's have a go at bringing it into modern day where they had nice things like crockery and proper underwear.

outlander wedding

First off, this thing is going to be super intimate. Maybe not quite an elopement - maybe a few clansmen and women - but a small gathering for a ceremony and a beautiful, simple picnic with a view.

For Claire, we're thinking simple, long-sleeve lace gowns with a bold, unusual, statement bouquet. A simple beaded or nature-inspired crown on a messy updo.

The table is moody and messy with wildflowers, fruit and gathered objects adorning the table for a fine celebratory feast.

And of course, off they head afterwards into the Highland mist together in a vintage car.

Fictional Follies: Maggie and Glenn

Spoiler alert for The Walking Dead Season 7 - if you've not watched the first episode, do not read on!

If you have watched it then you were probably as heartbroken as us at Glenn's fate, sobbing doesn't cut it, we were bereft for days. And so, because they never got to have their day, we invite you to join us at Maggie and Glenn's wedding as our star crossed lovers finally tie the knot.

In a world of walkers and untrustworthy survivors, keeping it low key and natural behind the safety of Alexandria's walls is the only way to go so they won't be heading to some unknown venue.

With resources thin on the ground, our kick ass couple have to make the most of what they have, with a natural colour palette and textures of wood, stone, greenery and wild flowers.

The day starts with an outside ceremony - tree trunks, leaves and candles line the aisle which Maggie walks up wearing a simple white dresses, a delicate crown of flowers and carrying a simple bouquet. With no father to give her away or sister as a bridesmaid she makes the trip on her own.

Once wed by the Reverend Gabriel it's time to eat. Long tables are laid out in the streets of Alexandria. Down the middle natural greenery and flowers that have been foraged sit in glass jars and vases and simple linens and crockery set each place. Behind the Bride and Groom is a simple twine and flower heart to mark their place.

A make shift guest book does the rounds while everyone eats, until the Bride and Groom cut the semi naked cake made and decorated by resident baker Carol.

The day ends with drinking but not much dancing to avoid attracting the walkers. Oh and in case you were wondering, Negan wasn't invited!

Fictional Follies: Sheldon and Amy

Today's Fictional Follies instalment is a love so scientifically perfect, so iconic, so beautifully nerdy - it's Dr Sheldon Cooper and Dr Amy Farrah Fowler.

So what would this glorious coming together of minds look like? There's just too much geeky goodness to choose from.

Both Amy and Sheldon, despite their outer quirkiness, we think would both still just want to look amazing. A slick tuxedo for Sheldon to play out a James Bond fantasy, and for Amy a simple gown and bolero fit for a princess (remember her bridesmaid dress for Howard and Bernadette's wedding? Yeah ya do). Oh and sensible shoes.

But though there is tradition at heart of it, there's a whole lot of fun to be had with their wedding design. Drawing inspiration from their work and their hobbies, reflecting their personalities like a good wedding should.

A simple, white tiered wedding cake with comic book detailing is the perfect summary of their traditional meets quirky day, as well as the groomsmen's simple grey suits with a pop of yellow in their matching converse.

Brainy details like the seating plan of periodic tables, and the signage made up from elementary symbols. Scientific beakers house beautiful blooms, or custom cocktails.

A wedding in which Sheldon was the groom wouldn't be right without a ton of popular culture references. Games, TV shows and movies would have their own role to play in decking out the reception space.

Fictional Follies: Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski

If you grew up in the early 90s like us then you must have spent your Saturday mornings catching up with Zack, Kelly, Screech and the gang at Bayside High in Saved by the Bell. You may even have followed them to the not quite as good College Years and seen Zack and Kelly get married in Vegas in a TV special.

Can I get a re-wind, time for the Revelry Events Saved by the Bell wedding special...

As a trend setter in her own right and with Lisa as a bridesmaid, who's one of the most fashionable girls in school, you can bet that Kelly will be as on trend as you can get. We're talking off the shoulder cuffs with softly tied bows, an elegant and romantic up to date fashion for Spring 2017 which was so favoured by Kelly in the 90s.

Next up the venue, and for pure nostalgia's sake the reception has to be an all American wedding breakfast of sliders and fries at The Max followed by drinks and dancing in the school gym.

Drawing on Kelly's cheerleading background you can expect the gym to be made over with tassles, ribbons and streamers with a playlist of early 90s classics.

The Mannequin Challenge may have taken 2016 by storm, but Zack was doing it way back in the 90s with his Time Outs. Giving it a millennial make over, the night would finish with a tableau of the gang together again.
